Did you know that your nerves have nerves
It sounds strange, but it is true. And this often overlooked detail could be the missing piece in your chronic pain journey.
I am Dr. Danny Clark, and today I want to talk about a structure called the nervi nervorum. This is a network of small nerves that actually innervate your larger nerves. In simpler terms, it is the nerve of the nerve. These small nerves detect irritation or damage and send pain signals to your brain when the larger nerve is inflamed or under stress.
When these nerves become irritated, they alert the body that something is wrong. You may feel this as sharp, lingering, or even hard to pinpoint pain. This internal alert system is crucial because it can indicate that a nerve — not just a joint or tendon — is the root of the problem.
In my clinical experience, nerve pain is often overlooked. A patient may have knee or shoulder pain, and while the joint or tendon may be inflamed, the surrounding nerves may also be contributing to the discomfort. When those nerves are not treated, the pain persists.
That is why we take a different approach at Protea Performance Center.
We often use image guided treatments to deliver healing solutions directly around the affected nerve. This can help calm the nerve and stop the pain signals from the nervi nervorum.
By treating both the main pain generator and the nerve itself, we are often able to provide relief where other methods fall short.
If you have been dealing with pain that does not seem to go away, even after multiple treatments, it might be time to look at the nerves involved.
We offer free fifteen minute discovery calls to help determine if nerve pain might be part of what you are experiencing.
Reach out to us and let us help you uncover the deeper source of your pain and get back to feeling like yourself again.
